Qualcomm Snapdragon 815 could be based on quad Cortex A72 and Cortex A53 cores

Fresh rumors about the next-gen Qualcomm Snapdragon 815 SoC point at big.LITTLE combination of quad Cortex A72 and Cortex A53 cores. The upcoming Snapdragon 815 will be similar to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 620 which is already launched, with quad-core Cortex A72 and A53 cores using the favorite big.LITTLE technique. According to reports, the processor will have the next generation Qualcomm Adreno GPU and will be manufactured using the new FinFet process.

Sources stated that Qualcomm may tweak the cores to boost performance and will have all the features that you can expect from a top-end Snapdragon 800 series chipset. Other rumored specifications of the 815 SoC indicate that it would include LDDR4 RAM and MDM9X55 LTE-A Cat.10 modem.Earlier details had emerged that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset was overheating and a big customer had dropped the processor due to issues.

Qualcomm has reportedly solved the issue and had recent conducted a test internally that shows that the Snapdragon 815 runs cooler than both the Qualcomm 810 and Qualcomm 801 chipsets.Sources state that Qualcomm has delayed the launch of Snapdragon 815 mainly because the company doesn’t want to hurt the sales of the 810 powered smartphones in the market such as the HTC One M9, LG G Flex 2, LG G4, etc.
